If you have 5 minutes, and 5 ingredients you can reconnect with family by sitting down to a home cooked meal. Don't tell me you don't have time to cook! If you have a Crockpot Slow Cooker you can cook anything! Build delicious memories for your kids --- have those yummy dinner aromas permeating the air of your home the minute your family hits the door!
These are some of my favorite recipes my family loves!
NOTE: All recipes serve 6-8 and can be prepared in crock-pots that hold anywhere from 3-l/2 to 5 quarts. Cooking time may vary according to your preferences regarding the texture of the food.
BBQ Surprise Chicken
3 lbs. chicken wings or drummies, fresh or thawed
1-1/4 cups barbecue sauce (any kind; that’s the surprise!)
2 T. chili sauce
1/4 c. honey
3 tsp. garlic, chopped
1/4 tsp. pepper
Wash the chicken under cold water and place on broiler pan. Broil 5-6 inches from the heat for 8-10 minutes, turning often, until chicken is browned. Place in crock-pot. Mix remaining ingredients in a small bowl and pour over chicken. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours. (Note: These can be held for one hour after cooking; keep temperature to low.)
1 lb. ground beef, browned and drained of fat
2 onions, chopped
1 c. water
3 14-ounce cans diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
1 T. chili powder
2 15-oz. cans red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
Combine ingredients in crock-pot. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
Drunken or Sober Sausage and Kraut
2 rings (about 1-2 pounds total) Polish sausage or kielbasa, lightly browned and cut in l/2” rounds
4 14-oz. cans of sauerkraut, undrained
1 12-oz. bottle beer, any brand (optional)
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
Combine ingredients in crock put. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 hours.
Big Kahuna Chicken
5 lbs. chicken breast, fresh or thawed, browned
2 16-oz. cans pineapple slices, drained
2 15-oz. cans mandarin orange slices, drained
1 16-oz. jar maraschino cherries, drained
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 1.5-oz. package any brand stir-fry seasoning mix, prepared as directed.
Combine chicken breast and fruit in large bowl. Combine dry ingredients in crock-pot, and then add chicken and fruit. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or high for 3 hours.
1 tsp. butter or margarine
1 c. celery, diced
1-2 lbs. beef (roast, round steak, beef tips, or other cut)
2 10.75-oz. cans cream of mushroom soup
2 1.5-oz packages any brand dry beef stroganoff mix, prepared according to package directions
1 c. sour cream (optional)
1 8-oz. package fresh mushrooms, sliced, or 2 3.5-oz. cans mushrooms (optional)
1 lb. egg noodles, cooked according to package directions
Combine butter and celery and microwave until tender (about 5 minutes). Reserve.
Sear beef on high heat in frying pan. Remove from heat and place in bottom of crock-pot. Stir together mushroom soup, mix, reserved celery, soup, sour cream and mushrooms and add to pot. Cook 4 to 6 hours on medium heat, or until meat is tender. Serve over cooked noodles.
Sloppy Joe Chili Dog
1 lb. ground beef, cooked and drained
2 14-oz. cans sloppy Joe mix
1 10-count package of hot dogs
1 10-pack hot dog buns
Stir together beef and sloppy Joe mix in crock-pot. Add hot dogs. Cook on medium for 1-2 hour. Serve on hot dog buns.
2 lb. frozen cheese-stuffed ravioli, cooked and drained
2 16-oz. jars of spaghetti sauce
1 lb. hamburger, browned and drained
1 lb. mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 tsp. Italian seasonings
Place one-third of ravioli on the bottom of the crock-pot, top with one-third the sauce, one-third the hamburger, and one-third the cheese. Repeat twice. Cook on medium for two hours.
Creamy Chicken Tenders
2 10.75- oz. cans cream of chicken soup
2 c. milk
1 tsp. pepper
1 lb. chicken tenders or boneless breasts cut in 1" strips and browned
4 c. cooked instant rice, prepared according to package directions r
Combine soup, milk, and pepper in crock-pot. Add chicken. Cook on medium setting for 2 hours. Serve over rice.
Belly-Pleasing Rump Roast with Vegetables
1 3-to-5-lb. rump roast, seared on high heat
1 1.5-oz. packet French onion soup mix or rump roast-seasoning packet mixed according to directions
1 medium onion, chopped
1 16-oz. frozen bag of vegetables
Place meat in bottom of crock-pot. Mix soup mix packet and pour on top. Place chopped onion on top of roast. Cook 4-6 hours on medium heat. Add defrosted vegetables one hour before you anticipate meat will be done.
Italian Meatball Hoagies
2 lb. Italian sausage or ground beef (or a mixture of the two)
1 tsp. garlic
1 tsp. parsley
Pepper to taste
1⁄2 c. chopped onion
1 c. breadcrumbs
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
2 16-oz jars of spaghetti sauce
Combine all ingredients except sauce in large bowl, shape into meatballs, and brown lightly on all sides. Place meatballs in crock-pot and pour sauce on top. Cook 4 hours on medium heat. Serve with pasta or on buns.
Magnifico Chicken Alfredo
1 lb. chicken breast in 1" strips, browned
1 16-oz. bag frozen broccoli, unthawed
2 16-oz. jars Alfredo sauce with garlic
1 tsp. minced garlic
1 lb. bow tie pasta, cooked and drained
Parmesan cheese (optional)
Add chicken, broccoli, sauce, and garlic to crock pot, stir, and cook on medium heat for 2 hours. Add the pasta; continue to cook for 30 minutes. Garnish with cheese before serving.
Really Cheesy Potatoes
1 8-oz. package Velveeta cheese
1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
2 c. half-and-half
1/2 c. butter or margarine
16-20 oz. frozen cubed or shredded hash browns, unthawed
Combine cheese, half-and-half and butter or margarine in crock-pot. Mix well and add hash browns. Cook on medium setting for 2 hours.
Triple Chocolate Fondue
1 8-oz. box semi sweet baking chocolate
1 8-oz. box unsweetened baking chocolate
1 6-oz. box white baking chocolate
1 14-oz. can sweetened condensed (not evaporated) milk
1 c. milk
For dipping: Four to six cups of dipping items such as sliced bananas, grapes strawberries, cake in cubes, cookies, pretzels, licorice, marshmallows.
Shave chocolate or grate into small pieces, add to crock-pot. Turn temperature to high, and cook chocolate mixture, stirring frequently, for 45 minutes. Turn the temperature to low, and start dipping.
And hey, if some of that chocolate spills on your white sofa…you can just smile (if you’ve followed my advice!)
